# Cookies and analytics

Visit Keswick is operated by Keswick Tourism Association (KTA). Essential cookies support features such as signing in and keeping your account secure.

## Optional analytics

We use KTA’s existing Google Analytics 4 property to count visits to public pages. Until you accept analytics, Google Analytics runs without cookies: it stores nothing on your device and sends Google only the public page viewed, with browser, device and network information needed to deliver the service. Google uses these signals to estimate overall visit numbers. This continues if you reject analytics, but never with cookies or identifiers.

PostHog’s EU service also counts public page views and the site actions listed below without cookies. Until you accept, we store nothing on your device and do not load PostHog’s software: each count is sent through our site with the public page viewed, its title, the website that referred you and safe campaign labels. PostHog groups these counts into visits on its servers using your network address and browser details combined with a value it changes every day, so a visit cannot be linked to another day. This continues if you reject analytics.

If you accept analytics, Google Analytics also uses cookies to recognise returning visits, and we load PostHog’s EU service to understand page use.

We exclude account, member, booking, enquiry and connector pages from this tracking. We remove URL query strings and fragments, and do not send your form entries, names, email addresses or payment details through this integration. When you search, PostHog records the words you typed (not your dates or party, and nothing that looks like an email address or phone number) with the businesses your search showed, so Keswick businesses can see which searches found them. Google advertising storage, advertising personalisation and Google signals are disabled.

If you accept analytics, Google Analytics uses the first-party cookies _ga and _ga_0SHFFX0QYN to distinguish visitors and sessions. We limit these cookies to 180 days. Rejecting analytics leaves the site available to you.

If you accept analytics, PostHog uses local storage for a random browser identifier and a session identifier to group visits and actions, including completed searches, webcam map selections, business website links and booking starts. We retain its browser identifier for up to 180 days; a session expires after 30 minutes of inactivity or 24 hours. We include safe campaign labels, such as the campaign source. We do not identify you by name or account.

If you accept analytics, PostHog also creates session replays of navigation, scrolling and clicks on public pages so we can understand usability problems. These reconstruct the page layout rather than filming your device screen. Public headings, listing names and article text remain readable. Search wording, generated trip guidance, form inputs and other content attributes are masked; public layout attributes and asset links are retained so the replay can display the page. Forms, embedded frames, canvas and video are blocked. Account, member, booking, enquiry and connector pages are excluded. We do not record console logs or network request contents. We ask for fresh consent before enabling this purpose, even if you previously accepted analytics.

## Server service records

We also record limited operational information about availability checks and checkout requests to monitor reliability and booking outcomes. These records do not use analytics cookies or browser identifiers and are collected independently of your optional analytics choice. They include the operation, business identifier, response status and timing. A hashed transaction reference lets us connect steps of the same checkout. We do not send guest contact details, payment credentials, travel dates or account identifiers to PostHog in these records.

## Remembering your choice

We store your choice on this browser using local storage named vk-analytics-consent-v3 for 180 days. This preference is essential to respect your choice. After it expires, or the analytics services or purposes change, we ask again.

You can withdraw consent using Cookie settings in the footer. We then return Google Analytics and PostHog to counting without cookies, stop PostHog’s identifiers and session replays, remove analytics identifiers on this domain and reload the page. This does not delete information already received by Google or PostHog.
