## The backdrop to the town

The mighty Skiddaw and its neighbouring peaks provide a magnificent backdrop for Keswick, in the northern Lake District. At 931 metres — 3,054 feet — it is the fourth highest mountain in England, and one of the most popular to climb. From Keswick there is a clear stony path all the way.

It can often be cold and windy at the top compared with the town below, so always go well prepared.

## What you can see

There is an excellent panorama of Keswick and Derwentwater, and on a clear day the views are far reaching: to Buttermere and Ennerdale in the western lakes, to the Scafell and Helvellyn ranges, to the coastal towns and the Isle of Man, and over the Solway Firth to the Scottish mountains.

## The walk

Ten miles from the Moot Hall and back, five to six hours, by way of Jenkin Hill. The [full route](https://visitkeswick.com/do/walking-routes/skiddaw-via-jenkinhill) leaves the Market Square between the Royal Oak and Greggs.
